Chapter 26: Something New Something Old

“It just slipped out.” Eila felt herself flush.

Brett paused, giving her a cheeky look. Brett flexed his muscular arms. It was hard to maintain this physical distance from her. In a voice as soft as velvet he said, “I don’t mix pleasure with work.”

“Lucky work!” Eila bit her lip. “Sorry, that too just.. . Anyhow what kind of hours do you have in mind?” Eila saw Brett rub his forehead as if he were questioning his sanity, Eila instantly empathized with him. She was questioning hers too.

Brett exhaled. “I don’t know… maybe five or six a day, depending on the work. Five days of work, including Saturday. You can take Sundays off and choose any other day of the week as your second day off.”

Eila nodded.

“How much did Randall pay you?” Brett turned to the Mac on his desk.

“$30 an hour. In cash.”

“I’ll match that. Any questions?”

“When do I start?” Eila shifted in her chair.

“Tomorrow.” Brett’s focus was now on whatever he was reading on his computer.

“At one thirty, then?”

Brett nodded.

“Will I be working out of here or Pleasure Taps?”

“Start here. I have retained Randall to continue there in a supervisory role. Nelly will continue as the bartender.”

Eila’s smile was heartfelt. “Randall must be thrilled. He is obsessed with that place.”

Brett chose that moment to glance at Eila. He honed in on her bright eyes and wide smile that added radiance to her pretty features immensely. Eila’s smile faltered under his scrutiny. Abruptly, Brett got up and walked over to the door. Grabbing her bag, Eila hastily followed.

“Randall is a good man. Have a good evening.”

Eila was dismissed. She lobbed a ‘thank you and bye’ in the same breath and stepped out of Brett’s office. The door shut behind her.

Eila hurriedly left the restaurant. That man gives me the tension of a lifetime in a few minutes. She could not wait to get home and relax. She planned to kick off her high heels, unhook her bra and watch some TV. Good times indeed. Eila walked out, happy for the moment. She had a part time job. She thought of Brett and her lips perversely twitched. He is probably banging his head on the door and already making plans to fire me!

Brett was definitely thinking of her. He scowled at the unread open email, as Eila’s smile and way it illuminated her face, refused to leave his thoughts. She’s just another temp employee! Brett glared at the pen in his hand before he tossed it on the desk and walked out to the kitchen. The room still smelled of her even though she was gone - a fresh flowery smell.

When Eila got home, she left her shoes by the front door and went looking for Sheela. She found her on the computer in the loft. Sheela immediately changed screens.

“Are you watching porn?”

She snorted. “Have you been drinking?”

“Ha! And Ha!” Eila yanked on an odd strand of Sheela’s locks and headed to her room.

Sheela followed. “Someone’s happy!”

“Yup, I got a part-time job.
